Westminster, are the residents important, do they count?

Nutsville has come into possession of two documents from a Central London Residents Association.

That association is in the Westminster Borough and wrote to the Council on a number of occasions detailing their concerns over the introduction of the levy to biker in relation to charges for parking. They are opposed to it.

Nutsville has learned that not only did the association write to the Council, they even met their ward Councillor in person a few days before the scrutiny committee meeting to express their dismay at the introduction of the levy. That councillor was on that scrutiny committee.

Nutsville has to hand evidence that this particular Residents Association has had similar run-ins with the Council before. That previous battle took a toll on the Council with not only Simon Milton (then leader) apologising for their mistakes, but it resulted in the deputy Chief Executive (‘Vera’ Duckworth) leaving to be banished to the Isle of Wight. In addition a number of other officers were sacked or pushed out.

Nutsville wonders quite why the Council ignores the residents of Westminster in such a cavalier and offhand manner yet seeks to engage with businesses outside of the arena of the borough. The Chairman of the residents association reminded Nutsville in published correspondence that the councillors are there simply as servants of the Lord Mayor & Citizens of Westminster. Note that it does not include businesses or ego inflated councillors.

Watch this space….

Hells teeth! This is scandalous!

Did Westminster deliberately ignore these residents?

And after so much of a focus on ‘residents’ at the scrutiny committee.

The councillors should be ashamed.

It’s appalling.

Westminster City Council will regret to have ignored these residents… The May 2010 elections are approaching much faster than one can possibly imagine and we will then see how many votes Cllrs Harvey, Chalkley, Burbridge, Floru (who is a candidate for the European elections, let me laugh!) and all those in support of the bike parking tax will lose. Can’t wait to see them voted out of the council, watch this space!

How two faced is Councillor Angela Harvey? She sat as chairwomen on the March 31st Scrutiny committee meeting knowing she had a city wide free parking permit, and asked each of the objectors if they were residents. She knew, as did others on that committee meeting that the citizens letters and views were all being ignored. She must be on the take, why else would she behave in such a disgusting and dishonest way?

Feathering their own nests as usual. People generally need to look at these ignorant egotists, parking issues aside, they know how to abuse the system and cover things up that wold make a difference.

Now they have overstepped the mark and are going to get the full force of reaction from the public, the very people who pay their wages and who they purport to represent.

I’ve watched this develop with interest, and this whole sorry affair looks very fishy. Given Westminster City Council’s recent past performance in their corrupt behavior regarding Lady Porter, I would have liked to have seen the leader of the council take swift action to investigate what’s going so wrong with the parking department. Instead all I have seen is Barrow making a few moves to smear the very people who look as if they are exposing the terrible behavior of some councillors and their officers. As Barrow can’t control the council it’s about time the auditors took another long hard look at the accounts. Why is Verrus being awarded contracts without the proper scrutiny? Why are the council breaking so many laws to get this parking system in place. Why has Danny Chalkley not been taken to task for losing so much tax payers money buying CCTV cameras, which he knew long ago were not the correct specification? Why are the council just not answering their critics?

Westminster trades on a mythical reputation of democracy.

The more you dig into the reality, the less you believe that myth.

This concealement of residents documents simply shows they have scant regard for the citizens of the borough.

These politicians are just scum, out to get whatever they can for THEMSELVES!

They only want our money, and simply cannot be bothered to reply to emails.

Four months ago I wrote to my ward councillor, got sod all back.

Democracy stinks in this country.

HaveLeftConsPartyMay 17th, 2009 at 8:31 pm

For public servants to ignore the very people they are there to serve is a travesty, what the hell do council tax payers give them their money for?

Imagine going into a coffee shop and being ignored at the counter? I know Brits are reluctant to express dissatisfaction but this is something else! I’ve left the conservative party and my actions won’t be stopping with that, Westminster Council are alienating more people than they realise and by the time they do realise it will be too late.

I wonder how many other objections from residents have been ignored by Westminster Council???

John PotcnikMay 18th, 2009 at 10:30 am

It’s not any surprise Westminster Councilors and employees seem to be busy going about their JOB in a way that suits them and not the public! Look at the MP’s taking everything they can, lets keep the pressure on them and get the authorities back working for us and not themselves!

Westminster are also ignoring FOI requests as well but they ahev to answer them at some point.

OracleMay 18th, 2009 at 3:47 pm

How long would I last if I went in to work tomorrow and ignored the people who paid my wages?

MrCMay 18th, 2009 at 3:59 pm

In answer to your question B Jackson. I submitted two personal none standard objections and I have recieved nothing more than a sod off if you don’t live in Westminster standard reply.

Unfartunatly this sordid affair showes they don’t even listen to those who DO live in Westminster!

Bring me an axe and some pikes, about time we stormed the tower!

Gerry DavidsonMay 19th, 2009 at 8:22 pm

Its monstrous that Westminster should ignore their own residents. Sadly this is what we have come to expect.

I am interested to see if the residents association mentioned (does anyone know who they are?) will take this further.

Hang on a minute….

I have read this thread with interest and I now see that its almost irrefutable that Westminster Council have deliberately withheld documents from the residents themselves against the introduction of this tax.

Shameless.

Not only should the Councillors be ashamed of their dishonesty, they should publicly resign en-masse and give true, honest citizens a chance at governing honestly. Shirley Porter must be cackling in her Park Land apartment at the current councils legacy of dishonest, duplicitous fixing.

Chalkley is nothing but dishonest telling his minions to conceal this information from other councillors.

This is appalling and deserves a wider audience to expose his lies, deceit and downright fibs!

Westminster will do anything to keep this tax, there is sooooooooo much money involved for them. The only thing is they never thought that the bikers/scooters community and even residents would be so united against this tax. We will get rid of this levy, united we stand.
The campaign is growing and growing by the day.
