Is this a fair an open democracy?

There are 49 Conservative councillors in Westminster, and of those 49 you will find 30 of them do not have drop in surgeries.

If you live in Westminster there’s a high chance you won’t be able to speak to your elected Council representative. Westminster City Council, please don’t mention democracy in your press releases again.

All these councillors have shut their doors on the public visiting them at a drop in surgery.

This is bloody outrageous! How on earth does Westminster City Council dare to accuse campaigners to be non-democratic when 30 Conservative (how surprising, Conservative!) councillers are not prepared to listen to the public by shuting their doors to them!! Unbelievable! And this council is supposed to be the golden one for the Conservative party! Let me laugh!

I have lived in Westminster for nearly 20 years, and until last year have never asked to speak with my Councillor. I wrote to my councillors shared PA last year to make an appointment (as none of them run an open surgery). I waited and waited for a reply and eventually had to chase up my request. I got back a one sentence reply from Cllr Ian Rowley, this was it:

Cllr Rowley understands that Cllr Chalkley had responded to your enquiry
and therefore a meeting is not necessary.

I wrote back to him explaining that Cllr Chalkley most certainly not answered my questions. Since then nothing, total silence from my three ward councillors:

Harvey Marshall
Mark Page
Ian Rowley

I am now making a complaint against these councillors, as this should not be the behavior of someone who stands for office and claims to represent you.

If you’re a resident of Westminster you’re at the bottom of the pile when it comes to consultation.

Welll you could use democracy to balance the scales – publish your story by as many means as possible and name names and aim to defeat these idiots in the local elections. Another way is to join the local Conservative Party and work from within.
